A Romantic Weekend At The Brooklodge Hotel and Spa

A romantic child-free break at the Brooklodge Hotel and Spa at Macreddin Village was exactly what I needed before baby number three arrived.

The Brooklodge Hotel and Spa at Macreddin Village is the ideal setting for a weekend of relaxation. Friendly staff, great food, adult only pool and spa areas and picturesque grounds are all ingredients for the perfect romantic couples weekend.

We arrived Saturday morning to a very warm welcome, log fires burning and friendly reception staff. Our room was ready so we headed straight up to drop the bags before lunch. The room was basic but had a traditional country-chic charm. I loved the big bay window with cosy seat overlooking the front gardens and the bathroom was filled with organic Damana goodies.

Lunch was in the Waterside Lounge with it’s comfy oversized sofas and attentive staff. The food was delicious and made me excited for the dinner we had booked that evening in the Strawberry Tree restaurant. I had the McCreddin BLT; dry cured bacon, slow roasted tomatoes, baby leaves, wholegrain mustard mayonnaise, served on toasted ciabatta bread. And because we were treating ourselves I had the hot chocolate pudding with chocolate fudge sauce and vanilla ice cream. I could have lounged in those comfy sofas all day but we had spa appointments booked for the afternoon.

The pool and spa areas are adult only so there is a sense of quiet peace and calm everywhere. We had a quick swim in the pool and then I had the mum-to-be massage. This massage is carefully tailored for pregnancy and the masseuse specially positions you throughout to ensure comfort and relaxation. It was divine.  I left feeling renewed and energised.

I could have done with a quick nap afterwards but we had early dinner reservations so it was a quick change and down to dinner at the Strawberry Tree Restaurant. The Strawberry Tree is Ireland’s only all organic restaurant. The menu changes daily and relies on what is in season, a lot of food grown to order on nearby organic farms or by their own chefs in the fields and woods surrounding Macreddin. We had a very romantic candlelit dinner by the fire.

There is a cosy country bar for after dinner drinks where I have it on good authority the Guinness is excellent.

There was lots to choose from at breakfast the next morning, all organic ingredients including mouth watering homemade jam and pastries, full Irish options, organic teas and smoothies and Green & Black organic hot chocolate.

After breakfast we wrapped up and went for a stroll around the beautiful grounds and lounged in our room before heading home after a wonderful trip. I would recommend this hotel for couples, although I spotted a couple of kids with their parents, it is geared towards adults and is perfect for a romantic escape.
